Gerrie Coetzee – Seventies Heavyweights

Maybe considered one of South Africa’s biggest fighters ever, Gerrie Coetzee started his legacy with a South African heavyweight title that he gained in 1976 by beating Mike Schutte though it was by disqualification when Coetzee’s opponent tried to kick him after the brand new champion was knocked down. He would later choice Schutte in a rematch. Coetzee bought his first shot at a world title when he fought John Tate however he misplaced a unanimous choice. Two fights later he misplaced to the person that took the title from Tate, Mike Weaver. However in 1983 with a knockout of Michael Dokes, Coetzee turned champion solely to lose to Greg Web page over a 12 months later in his first title protection. Coetzee would lose twice extra to Frank Bruno and his remaining combat a loss to Iran Barkley however in his final 5 bouts, he gained three to complete with a document of 33-6-1.
